Loveland Police Department Homicide Press Briefing

June 4, 2015

At approximately 10:52 pm, last evening, Loveland police officers responded to the area of East First Street and St. Louis Avenue on the report of a bleeding man lying on the sidewalk. When officers arrived, they performed life-saving measures for the man but were unsuccessful. The Department was assisted on scene by the Loveland Fire Rescue Authority and the Thompson Valley Emergency Medical Service. Those initial responding personnel determined the man had been shot.

This afternoon, the Larimer County Coroner’s Office has informed us that the victim has been identified as 65 year-old William Roger Connole, Jr. of Loveland. The Coroner’s Office has identified the manner of Mr. Connole’s death as Homicide and the cause of death as a gunshot wound. There is currently no direct link between this investigation and the April 22 incident on Interstate 25 or the May 18 homicide reported in Windsor, Colorado.

However, there are several similarities in these incidents that led the Loveland Police Department to engage the resources available from the pre-existing Task Force investigating these two incidents. We have formally joined that Task Force that now consists of the Windsor Police Department, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Larimer County Sheriff’s Office, Weld County Sheriff’s Office, Weld County District Attorney’s Office, Larimer County District Attorney’s Office, the Loveland Police Department and additional resources as needed.

This is an on-going criminal investigation in its initial stages. We will not be able to discuss or comment upon the evidence in this case or any witnesses or leads at this time to help insure the integrity of this investigation.
