Now text emergency 911

The Larimer Emergency Telephone Authority, which manages emergency services dispatch for all first responders in the county, unveiled the new technology over the summer. It’s as simple as filling out “911” in the recipient field. “People do prefer (texting), so we’re glad to have that extra lifeline,” LETA Executive Director Kimberly Culp said. It’s more than just good for those more used to hitting send than talking on their phones. It makes emergency reporting easier for those with hearing and speech impairment, for those in situations where they might not be able to talk and for those with limited cellphone service. Rolland Moore Park Armed Robbery

Fort Collins police are investigating an armed robbery that was reported Saturday evening at a popular city park. Officers were called at 5:43 p.m. Saturday, 12/20/14, to Rolland Moore Park, 2201 S. Shields St., on a report of a robbery in progress. A suspect brandished a small semi-automatic handgun and demanded a wallet from a man who was walking in the park, Fort Collins police said. The suspect fled and was described as a Hispanic man with a black hooded sweatshirt. Nobody was injured during the incident, and additional information was not immediately available Sunday. Fort Collins 7-11 Store Robbery

Fort Collins police on Friday continued to search for a man who brandished a handgun and demanded cash during an early morning heist at a 7-Eleven. Officers were called at 2:31 a.m. Thursday to 7-Eleven, 970 W. Horsetooth Road, in Fort Collins on a report of a robbery in progress. An unknown suspect entered the convenience store, displayed a gun and demanded cash, police said Friday. The man, captured on security footage, wore a black hoodie, had his face covered and was described as being 6-feet-1-inch tall. A photo released shows the suspect standing near the entrance, looking in the window with a gun at his side. Charges Filed in Series of Assaults As part of a joint investigation, investigators from Fort Collins Police Services and the Larimer County Sheriff's Office met with the Larimer County District Attorney's Office regarding the series of physical assaults against women which have occurred in the City of Fort Collins and Larimer County since late September.
